Born August 22, 1956, in Waltham, MA to the late Paul and Janice (Murphy) Flynn as the fifth of nine children, Tom was a longtime resident of Marshfield and spent his summers in Scituate since childhood.
Tom treasured his memories of growing up in Waltham and Scituate surrounded by his many siblings, cousins, and neighborhood pals, many of whom would become lifelong friends. He attended Waltham High School where he followed in his older brothers’ footsteps joining the basketball team. He later graduated from American International College in Springfield where his love for playing basketball continued to grow. AIC is also where he fell in love with his soon-to-be wife, Carolyn Munroe. They raised their five children in Marshfield where Tom became involved in coaching his kids’ basketball teams. Carolyn and Tom shared 28 years of love, laughter, and the joyful chaos of raising five kids together until her death in 2009. In 2014, Tom met Laurie Long, who would be his partner by his side for nearly 12 years. Together they built a loving home in Marshfield, where family and friends were always welcome, and many happy memories were made.
Tom had a long and successful career in the title insurance industry, retiring in 2024 after 19 years as Vice President at Chicago Commonwealth Title Insurance Company.
Always with a smile and a kind word, Tom was loved by all who were fortunate to know him. Tom collected friends everywhere he went - from his childhood friends in Waltham and Scituate, to his basketball teammates at AIC and beyond, his fellow Marshfield basketball coaches, and later on his golf buddies and Marshfield Country Club members. He will be remembered for his love of golf, basketball, Billy Joel and Jackson Browne. His greatest happiness in life was time spent with family members and friends.
Tom was predeceased by his parents Paul and Janice; his brother Paul; and Carolyn his beloved wife of 28 years. He was the loving partner of Laurie Long; a devoted father to Paul and his wife Emily of Medford; Allison of Marshfield; BettyAnn and her husband Kyle Burghardt of Marshfield; Kelsey of Arlington; and Henry of Marshfield.
He was an ever-present and loving brother to Nancy Doherty of Scituate; Mark of Pembroke; Larry and his wife Valerie of Scituate; Jane and her husband John Cliffe of Hull; Barbara and her husband Peter Curro of Hales Location, New Hampshire; Michael of Dover, New Hampshire; and Jim and his wife Sue of Scituate.
Tom was a proud and doting “Grampy” to Munroe, Reece, Leni, and Ozzie who were the joys of his life. He will also be missed by many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
