With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Victoria (Vicki) Louise Diehl Chin – 80, of Scituate, on May 14, 2026. She was the beloved wife of Louis Chin, with whom she shared 50 years of marriage. She fought a fast and furious battle with an illness that took her from this world. Vicki was able to pass away in her own home, right in the room where she took comfort from years of happy family memories surrounding her. She found comfort in the sounds of classical guitar playing and she was at peace.
Born on May 15, 1945 in Pell City, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Albert George and Lee Althea (Creed) Diehl. Sister of the late Albert Creed Diehl, Vicki excelled in dance, art, music, and mathematics. After graduating University of Massachusetts, Boston Vicki opened “Victoria’s By The Sea,” an antique shop in picturesque Cohasset Harbor. The store featured a baby grand piano.
Mother of Erik Gordon of Naples, Fl, Sarah Dolan of Scituate, MA and stepmother to Anne King of Marblehead, MA. Grandmother to Brinley, Ethan, Hannah, Jillian, Jonathan, Shauna, Sierrah, and Teagan who will carry her spirit forward. Also survived by her aunt, Nancy DiGiovanni and many beloved cousins.
Vicki was a long time member of St. Mary’s church in Scituate where she taught CCD and more recently found comfort in her faith within North Community Church in Marshfield Hills. Vicki’s many hobbies included kayaking, playing the piano, painting, drawing, gardening, badminton, and walking with friends. Vicki made sure any free time would not go to waste. Vicki loved living in the small town where she went to school. She stayed close and connected to several long time dear friends.
Vicki and Lou met on a blind date set up by friends who are like family. The dating lasted only 6 weeks and included tennis matches before they both said “I do.” They found a house in Scituate with a tennis court and knew that is where they would call home. That tennis court went on to serve as so much more; a dance floor at parties, basketball court, roller skating rink, where kids learned to ride a bike, and a place where many memories were made.
She was constantly doing something with or for grandchildren, even those who are far away. They mattered most in her world and always said “grandchildren always have the green light” right until her last day. Some might say that green light was for anything and everything for the grandchildren. They definitely have a few secrets shared with Vicki that she took with her. Signs at Vicki’s home say “What Happens at Grandma’s stays at Grandma’s” and “Grandchildren spoiled here.”
We will remember Vicki’s big, warm smile that could fill the room. We know she is smiling upon all of us now.
A visitation will be held from 3–6 pm on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate, Massachusetts. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. A private burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery will be held at a later date.
