Bill spent much of his growing-up years in Gouverneur, New York. He would often share fond memories of days at the camp and boating. He had a special bond with his grandparents, Moms and Pop, and enjoyed spending summers with them working at the animal shelter.
Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was stationed as a surveyor in Germany from 1962-1965. He was a graduate of Northeastern University and received his MBA from Suffolk University. He spent much of his career at New England Telephone/NYNEX.
Scituate was his heart and home. He leaves a legacy of community involvement in his cherished organizations, the Knights of Columbus and Scituate Community Christmas. The K of C Carnival was a cause near and dear to his heart and he worked on bringing it to Scituate for over 40 years. He was active in the community he loved, serving on the Planning Board, Advisory Board, and Waterways Committee.
He spent many a day sailing on his boat “Sophist” in Scituate Harbor and golfing at Widow’s Walk.
He cherished family above everything else and proudly spent countless days at the ball fields and drama shows his grandchildren participated in. He was so proud of them both
and loved hearing stories about their travels, games, and friends.
Bill was always quick with his wit and humor. He was known to give people nicknames that always brought joy and smiles.
Bill also leaves behind the legacy of family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Nanette Macdonald Limbacher, as well as their cherished daughter, Jennifer, her husband Michael and his dear grandchildren who he loved beyond words, Michael Robert and Madeline Belle who lovingly called him Doot.
The Macdonald Clan, his wife’s family, held a special place in his heart. He leaves behind the “ettes” his sisters-in-law - Janette Johnson (Jan), Mariette Wooden (Metz) and her husband Doug, Suzette Lebenzon (Suziette) and Jeff Weinstein, his brother-in-law Hugh Macdonald and his wife Sabrina, as well as his nieces and nephews who loved spending time with their Uncle Bill.
Cousins were a big part of his life, and he had so much joy sharing wonderful times at our family clambakes and reunions. He was proud Uncle Bill to so many!
He was the brother of Ellen Martin and her husband PJ, and uncle to their two sons.
He was predeceased by his parents, William and Ruth Limbacher.
Many cherished Macdonald family times were shared with his late brothers-in-law Stewart Johnson (Skeet), Bob Marbut, and Joseph Lebenzon, and well as his beloved nephew Hugh Johnson.
