Barbara J Boss

Barbara Jean (Myers) Boss, 70, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, formerly of Orrville, Ohio, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 28, 2018 in her home surrounded by family after an extended yet graceful battle with brain cancer. Barb was born September 20, 1948 in Massillon, Ohio to Edward and Beverly (Maag) Myers. She grew up in Orrville, Ohio and graduated from Orrville High School with the Class of 1966. Barb was united in marriage to Cordell Raymond Boss on September 24, 1966.

The couple made their home in Kidron, Ohio on the Boss family farm where they began their family that would come to include five children- Cheryl, Todd, Matthew, Kyle, and Erin. Barb was a key partner with Cordell in Boss Farms that also included Cordell’s brother Hartley and parents Raymond and Anna Jane. This later became Boss Cattle where they raised purebred Angus seedstock in partnership with their youngest son Kyle. Showing steers and the seedstock they produced at the state and national level was an activity the whole family enjoyed. She encouraged all her children to become involved with 4-H and FFA, and always enjoyed helping her children with their various projects. Throughout their 52 years of marriage, Barb and Cord pursued their livelihood of farming and ranching starting in Ohio and would later relocate to Nebraska where they would retire in Scottsbluff, Nebraska in 2016.

Barb was an active member of her high school, and she was especially enthusiastic about marching, concert, and dance band; and she shared her love and knowledge of music thru giving music lessons as a young woman. Barb took great pleasure in keeping score for all of Cord’s fast pitch softball games, and was an active member of the Salem Mennonite Church where she enjoyed helping with flower arrangements as well as teaching bible school during her children’s younger years. She was a fan of everything sports from watching Cord, her children, and grandchildren compete to cheering on her favorite Ohio State Buckeyes. Barb had many talents as a homemaker including being a gifted seamstress, a vast spelling ability, a wealth of knowledge of anything she was asked, and especially an accomplished cook. Her cooking, baking, and annual variety of Christmas candies always made with love will forever be missed. Barb was an avid reader and had a passion for archeology, crafts, and ensuring her family always felt loved. Her family was her pride and joy, and she was her children’s number one supporter in their many activities. She adored her five grandchildren and watching them grow up, and treasured every minute she was able to spend with them. Barb will always be remembered for her kind heart and welcoming smile.

Barb is survived by her loving husband Cordell; her beloved children Cheryl Boss of Nashville, TN, Todd Boss of Faulkton, SD, Matthew Boss of Webster City, IA, Kyle (Brittany) Boss of Stony Plain AB, Canada, and Erin (Chris) Dudden of Bayard, NE; grandchildren: Makenna, Madison, and Trevor Boss, Cooper and Parker Dudden; siblings Diane (John) Kessler of Tallahassee, FL, and Dennis (Gunnhild) Myers of Ft. Myers, FL; sister-in-law Janet (John) Sprunger, of Kidron, OH, brother-in-law Hartley (Marie) Boss of Orrville, OH; Uncle Howard (Pat) Maag of Port Washington, OH; fond nieces and nephews; and special friends.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Beverly Myers, in-laws Raymond and Anna Jane Boss, brother Scotty Myers, cherished Aunt Verla (Don) McElwain, Uncle Jack (Margaret) Myers, Uncle John (Marcia) Maag, and extended family members.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Barb’s name can be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Regional West Medical Center Hospice in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
