

Calvin Eugene Lenhart, 85, of Scottsbluff, died Monday, June 7, 2010 at his home. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Brad Gustafson officiating. A private family graveside service will be held prior to the service. Cremation was held at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory. Calvin was born August 14, 1924 in Scottsbluff, NE to Henry J. and Katherine (Reinhardt) Lenhart. He graduated from Liberty High School and attended The University of Denver, where he graduated in 1946 receiving a B.A. degree in business. He returned to Scottsbluff as a CPA and started an accounting firm. He married Gladys Tripp August 7, 1948 in White Lake, SD. He continued his accounting practice until 1976 when he worked for the accounting office at Regional West Medical Center and at Western Nebraska Community College. Cal started the Grease Monkey on the Scottsbluff Gering Highway which was the first quick lube business in Scottsbluff. He sold the business in 1998 and retired at that time. Cal was a member, Elder and Deacon of First Presbyterian Church in Scottsbluff, a board member of Scottsbluff Kiwanis Club with over 55 years of perfect attendance; American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Elks Lodge #1367 and Past President of Scottsbluff Jaycees . He served as chairman of the Nebraska State Board of Accountancy and as president of the West Nebraska Chapter of CPAs. He has also been president of the Scottsbluff Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Commerce, president of the Scottsbluff Community Chest, president of the Platte Valley Forum, member of the original group instrumental in founding Hiram Scott College and he served as secretary of the Board of Trustees. Cal was recipient of the Twin-Cities Cosmopolitan Club Distinguished Service Award in 1970. Cal was a people person who enthusiastically greeted and welcomed family, friends and visitors with joy. He loved conversation and fellowship with others. His affable personality always brought out his wonderful sense of humor and jolly nature. He enjoyed camping, was very patriotic and respected all veterans for their commitment to our country. He is survived by his wife Tripp; son Matthew (Becky) Lenhart, Aurora, CO; daughter Rebecca (Jack) Ward Scottsbluff, NE; grandchildren Charles (Lalissa) Ward, Hettinger, ND; Albert (Laci)Ward, Scottsbluff, NE; Wendy (Lucas) Spencer, Scottsbluff, NE ;and Lance Johnson, Aurora, CO. He was Grandpa Great to three great grandchildren: Hanah and Emily Ward and Berlyn Spencer. He is also survived by a sister: Jackie Lashley, Mitchell, NE; brothers: Lawrence (June) Lenhart, Torrington, WY and Herb (Nell) Lenhart Puyallup, WA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Elta, Carol and Dorothy and brother James. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to Nebraska Children’s Home, 4939 South 118th Street, Omaha, NE 68137.
