
Charles “Chuck” Ferdinand Halstead, 75, of Gering, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 at Regional West Medical Center. He was recently diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS) in November 2012. His funeral service will be held Friday, Feb. 8, at 2 p.m. at the Plymouth Congregational Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Rod Wetzig officiating. Interment will follow in the Mitchell Cemetery with military honors by the U.S. Marine Corp. Visitation will be Thursday from 1 to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel. Chuck was born March 30, 1937 in Brighton, Colo. to Muriel R. Steiner and Frank Dieckmann and was later adopted by George Halstead. He graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1956. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1960. In 1961, he attended college. Chuck was Deputy Sheriff in Torrington, Wyo., a police officer in Casper, Wyo. and worked for Midwest. He worked in construction, housing maintenance and the last six years of his life working at Walmart. Chuck enjoyed serving as the Cabinet Chair, Trustees and Usher. He always was willing to serve his church. He also helped with numerous remodeling jobs. He married Patricia “Pat” Grasmick on Sept. 3, 1995. Chuck was a Husker fan, 49er’s fan and an Avalanche fan. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and was great at basketball and football. He loved his family and will be sadly missed. Survivors include his wife Patricia Halstead of Gering; children, Charles Ferdinand Halstead, Jr. of Aurora, Colo.; daughter, Kelley Anne (Daniel) Hittle of Casper; son, Robbin Nathaniel Halstead of Aurora, Colo., son Christopher Lewis (Caryn) Halstead of Mesa, Ariz.; stepchildren, Dee Dee (Dan) Bennett of Gering, Tim (Linda) Bauer of Gering, Doug (Jutta) Bauer of Germany, Randy Bauer of Paul, Idaho, Jason (Diane) Bauer of Round Rock, Texas and Fonda (Dennis) Franklin of Paul, Texas; 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; siblings Richard Franklin Halstead and Muriel B. Parker both of Scottsbluff; ex-wife, Judith Annett Archer of Casper, Wyo.; and his special companion Tasha Bear. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother and wife Sandra Ellen Harolson.
