A viewing will be from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, Monday, August 18th, 2025, at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel. Memorial service will be at 11:00am, Tuesday, August 19th, 2025, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel. Graveside will be at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering, immediately following the service.
Don was born October 21st, 1930, in Scottsbluff. He attended Banner County schools until his freshman year but did not graduate as he chose to leave school and work on the family farm. He found additional work breaking horses at local ranches until he joined the Navy in 1951, where he served four years on the U.S.S. Eversole.
He married Iline (Wayman) Kelly on February 17th, 1957, at Melbeta Methodist Church and made their home in Gering, later moving to Melbeta. He worked as a lineman with the Western Area Power Administration where he retired in 1989.
In retirement he spent his time hunting, fishing, hauling sugar beets, volunteering, dancing at local senior centers, enjoying nearby casinos, and shooting at the family trap competitions.
He was a member of the Scottsbluff VFW the Gering American Legion, and the Melbeta Methodist Church.
He is survived by his children Kurt (Sherri) Kelly and Karen Kelly, his grandchildren Scott Ingersoll, Dustin Ingersoll, Kyle (Christina) Kelly, and Kayla Kelly (Zachary Arnold), his great-grandchildren Cannon, Emily, and Jack, his siblings Jerry (Eula) Kelly, Glenn (Betty) Kelly, Pat (Steve) Shafer, and his special friend Shirley May.
He was preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Lydia Kelly, his children Leroy and Kenny Kelly, and his wife, Iline Kelly.
