Dorothy Mae Cain

Dorothy was born on a farm near Wilber, Nebraska, on March 5, 1927, to Frank and Lizzie (Ripa) Kovar. She graduated from Wilber High School in 1944. She then enrolled in the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Lincoln and became a registered nurse. In this profession, Dorothy worked at St. Elizabeth's Hospital and the Veteran's Hospital in Lincoln. She also worked at St. Mary's Hospital and West Nebraska General Hospital in Scottsbluff.

She married Jim Cain at St. Mary's Cathedral in Lincoln in September of 1948. To this union, five sons were born. The growing family lived in Lincoln for 14 years before moving to Scottsbluff. Dorothy and her husband were members of St. Agnes Catholic Church since 1962.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Cain; her son, John; her parents and her sister, Gladys.

She is survived by four sons: Mike Cain (Leslie), of Ft. Laramie, Wyo., Dr. Stephen Cain (Julie), of Grand Island, Neb., Jim Cain (Karen), of Lenexa, Kan., and Mark Cain (Kelly), of Santa Fe, N.M; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff on June 20, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., with Father Rayappa Konka officiating. Fond memories and condolences may be left at www.dugankramer.com for family.
