

Eugene “Gene” Bayliss, 62, of Scottsbluff, passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Chimney Rock Villa in Bayard. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Ken Maldonado officaiting. Visitation will take place an hour before the service at the church. Cremation will follow services. Burial will be at a later date at the Gordon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in care of his daughters, Melanie Freeman or Heather Bayliss. Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Gene was born on March 24, 1953 at Gordon to Robert and Harriet (Stephens) Bayliss. He received his early education from Gordon Schools.
Gene was united in marriage to Sherry Swick on August 26, 1973 at Gordon, where they made their home. To this union, two daughters were born, Melanie and Heather.
Gene worked for S & S in Gordon and then the local tire shop. After that, he worked at Magowen Feed for many years before moving to Wyoming, where he worked for the State of Wyoming. He moved back to Scottsbluff to take care of his mom and worked for Warren Construction, where he helped build Menards. He traveled around the state of Nebraska with Warren Construction, working on various work sites.
Gene was a member of the Gordon Fire and Rescue Department and the Sand Hills Archery.
Gene enjoyed deer hunting, gardening and fishing. He was involved in many fishing contests, where he won fishing equipment. He also enjoyed going to the Stagecoach Band’s dances and going to his mother-in-law’s cabin in the Black Hills. He especially loved to BBQ, Mexican food, and cooking for everyone. He liked to fix and build anything, and could make “something” out of “nothing”. He was very organized and built many shelves to help with his organization skills.
Those left to mourn the passing of Gene are his daughters Teresa (Jerry) Glass, Melanie (Dustin) Freeman and Heather (Ben) Herrley; grandchildren Wayne, Jesse, Cheyenne, Shawna, Tyson, and Braxton; siblings Diana Bayliss, Toby Bayliss and Johnny Bayliss; ex-wife Sherry Bayliss; mother-in-law Shirley Swick and family; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father John Abbott and sisters Ann Carol Farliegh and Karen Cadwalder.
