

Fred Bernhardt Jr., aged 85, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2017 at the Western Nebraska Veteran’s Home. Family will be holding a private family service. Burial will be at Fairview cemetery with a private family graveside. Pastor Al Wilson is officiating. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.dugankramer.com.
Fred was born on June 23, 1932 to Fred Sr. and Amila (Kling) Bernhardt in Torrington, WY. He was the oldest son of 8 children. They moved around and settled in the Scottsbluff area. In 1952, Fred joined the Army and served his country in the Korean War. He was in the artillery. In 1974, Fred married Marian Weis. Together they raised 3 kids.
Fred enjoyed spending his time playing bingo, fishing, being at the racetrack, and playing at the casinos. He liked to watch war related movies, and spending time with his family. Family was very important to him. Fred worked at Daylight Donuts for several years, and the Sugar Factory on and off for 10 years.
He is survived by his wife Marian, brothers Donald, Robert, and Kenny all of Scottsbluff, sister Patricia Keahey of Port Huron, MI, children Tim (Leslie) Weis, Christina (Guy) Hughes, and Crystal (Ian) Knaub all of Gering, grandchildren Ethan Knaub, Sylvia (Johnathon) Waters, and Kimberly (Joe Roberts) Hughes, and 6 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Amila Bernhardt, two brothers, two sisters, one child, and one great grandchild.
