In Loving Memory of Harvey Leroy Green, Jr., 68, of Gering, who crossed the golden bridge Monday, January 11, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family. At his request, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, January 18, 2021 at Salem Congregational Church with Pastor Dale Brown officiating. Harvey was born June 28, 1952 at Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Harvey L. and Sally (Weimer) Green. He grew up on a farm and loved his community. He attended and graduated from Scottsbluff High with the Class of 1971. He received HVAC training in Arizona. He enlisted in the United States Army on July 27, 1972 and served during the Vietnam Conflict until his honorable discharge on July 25, 1975. He received the National Defense Service Medal, sharp shooters badge M-16, Good Conduct Medal, Military Education, CST, Wireman, USAFESS, and Lineman certifications and recognitions.
Harvey was a dedicated soldier and joined the National Guards, serving for 25 years. He served during the Afghanistan and Desert Storm Conflicts and was with Food Service Operations and Wheel Vehicle Mechanics until his retirement.
Harvey was a very social and athletic man. He loved to put on countless hog roasts for the community and played softball for years representing the Rompus Room, winning several state championships. He was a true friend always there when you needed him no matter what it was - big or small.
Harvey was very proud to be an American and serve our country. He took his military career very seriously and watched over his comrades and men with great care.
Harvey is survived by his sisters Debera Behrens and Cyinda Kriner and many other family members.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and nephew Rocky Lee Behrens.
