He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Jacob and Caroline (Kramer) Wagner. At the age of three his family moved to Sterling, Colorado to farm and eventually Scottsbluff. He was the fourth of seven children.
He served in the United States Air Force during World War 2, after which he returned to Scottsbluff to settle and raise his family. He married Mary Nadine “Rose” (Combs) and had four children from that union. They were married 58 years until her death in 2009.
John served on the Scottsbluff Police Department and K9 unit for 17 years after which he went into business for himself doing the things he loved. He started a cattle ranch in Sioux County, invested and sold real estate, and owned a furniture store. In his spare time he loved riding and breaking horses, boating, camping and working from dawn to dusk. A devoted family man, he always found time to work with his children and provide them with the resources necessary to achieve their goals and dreams. He was a man of high work ethics and many talents, and a great sense of humor and highly regarded by those that knew him.
He will be greatly missed by his surviving family, John Wagner (Deb), Dean Wagner (Diana Myers), Wendy Blackos (Dan Hubbs), Jodi Lange (Bill Debus), Jacob and Sean Wagner, Nick and Ryan Ereth, Nathan Blackos, Jillian Astbury, Anna Lange, Zane Wagner, Brooke Mershawn, and Chris Wagner, and all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, six siblings, and his parents. He will be missed by all that loved and knew him. May God bless his soul.
Cremation has taken place and a service for family and friends with take place on Friday, November 30th at 10:30am at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel. Condolences can be sent to the family or to Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel.
