

Johnny Schlaepfer, 82, of Scottsbluff, died Friday, May 11, 2012, at Heritage Estates in Gering. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 18, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Brad Gustafson officiating. The family requests that people attend in casual attire. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff with military honors provided by the United States Air Force. Friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Thursday, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff. A memorial has been established to Gering Girls Softball Association. Johnny was born January 18, 1930 in Bayard, NE to Conrad and Bertha (Faessler) Schlaepfer. He graduated from Minatare High School in 1949 and married Donna Richter on December 22, 1953 at Minatare. He graduated from Office Machine Tech School in Springfield, MO and returned to Bayard where they lived until moving to Scottsbluff in March of 1956. Johnny was employed at Scottsbluff Typewriter for 13 years and then worked at Western Office Supply for 26 years until he retired. Johnny was a member and Deacon of First Presbyterian Church, past governor of the Moose Lodge, former cub scout leader, little league coach, 23 Club umpire and lifetime member of the Scottsbluff Jaycees. Johnny was known for his smile. He touched many hearts, was an avid golfer, fisherman and loved watching his grandkids’ sporting events. He is survived by his children, Bill and Paula Schlaepfer, Doug and Lorena Schlaepfer, Julie and Archie Schuler and Kay and Tony Lemons; sisters Lorraine Beddow and Esther Menardi; grandchildren Josh (Doneta) Schlaepfer, Mandi (Tyler) Barry, Aspen, Tegan, Kenzie and Keaton Schlaepfer, Tony (Courtney) Schuler, Taylor Schuler, and Jordan and Brock Lemons; great grandchildren Madi and Tristian Schlaepfer and Jack Barry. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother , Bill granddaughter Jamie and grandson Adam.
