Lloyd Everett Hill, 92, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, formerly of Scottsbluff, died Sunday, February 22, 2009, at Veteran’s Home in Cheyenne after a short illness. His funeral service will be held, 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 26, 2009, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff with Chaplain Delbert Hansen officiating. Cremation will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory. Friends may visit from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel. Everett (as he was called by his family) was born December 13, 1916, in Filley, Nebraska. He was the first child of Chester Lloyd and Lena (Johnson) Hill. Everett attended Sparks School (District 40) at Ellis, then Ellis High School. He moved to Beatrice in 1940 and attended Beatrice Senior High. After leaving school he worked for some area farmers and then went to work as Steel Tanks as a welder. Everett married Opal Dorothy Moore on September 27, 1942. He entered the United States Army at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas on December 7, 1942 and was shipped overseas in July of 1944. Everett served in the Infantry Corps of Engineers in Africa, Italy and Greece and was honorably discharged on December 11, 1945. Upon returning home to his family in Beatrice, Everett worked as M. O. Trindel Service Station and for Cooper Feeds as a truck driver. The family moved to Scottsbluff in 1960, where he worked for Nebraska Machinery until retirement. Everett was an avid fisherman and many may remember his green Volkswagen camper with his folding boat towing behind with “Gone Fishing” painted on the back. Everett enjoyed the visit of his children and grandchildren at his home and took care of his great-grandchildren. His wife Opal, died on September 12, 1994, and Everett continued to live at home in Scottsbluff until a stroke forced him to move to the home of his daughter, Jan. In October of 2006, because of his failing health, it was impossible to care for him at home; he was admitted to the Cheyenne Veteran’s Home Extended Care Unit. He made many friends there and lived out his life among other Veterans. In November of 2001, Everett was awarded an honorary high school diploma under the “Operation Recognition” program that awarded these to World War II Veterans. Survivors include his daughters, Marilyn King of Albert Lee, Minnesota and Jan Rein of Cheyenne, Wyoming; grandchildren, Mike Peterson, Dawn Ford and Vonnie Warren; great-grandchildren, Stefani, Jordan, Connor, Jessie, Logan, Bailey, Paige, Dilyn and Taylor; three-great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Ruth Klostemier. He was preceded in death by brothers, Orville and Darrell Dean; and sister, Dorothy.
