

Richard A. (Dick) Douglas of Scottsbluff died Thursday, April 12, at his home in Scottsbluff. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Scottsbluff with Father Vince Parsons officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery with military rites by the Nebraska Army National Guard. The rosary will be said in his memory at 7:00 p.m on Monday, April 16, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff. Memorials may be made to Creighton Prep in Omaha, Nebraska or to the W.N.C.C. Foundation. Dick was born November 23, 1945, in Pipestone, Minnesota, to Donald and Leona (Smith) Douglas. After living in Texas for a short time, the family moved to Omaha, where Dick graduated from Creighton Prep and Creighton University. Following service in the United States Army, he graduated from Creighton University School of Law. In 1972, he married Judith Fitzgerald in Omaha. The following year, the couple moved to Scottsbluff, where Dick began his law practice. At the time of his death, he was the president of the law firm Douglas, Kelly, Ostdiek and Ossian. His passion for education was reflected in his representation of Scottsbluff Public Schools, Western Nebraska Community College, and many other school districts in Western Nebraska. He had many clients whom he represented with integrity and diligence. Dick was an active member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. He loved playing golf, discussing politics, and spending time with his friends. Most of all, he loved and cherished his family. He will be remembered for his advice, his generosity, and his sense of humor. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bob. He is survived by his wife Judy of Scottsbluff; daughter Ann (Justin) Hofmeister and their daughter Margot of Miami, Florida; son Tim (Michelle) and their children Daisha, Davin, and Ethan of Victorville, California; daughter Maggie of Omaha; daughter Kelly (Justin) Villafane of Lincoln; brother Jack (Sally) of Omaha; many nieces and nephews and many loving friends.
