

Robert E. “Bob” Tanner, 78, of Minatare, died Sunday, February 4, 2007, at his home. A memorial service will be held 1:00 P.M., February 17, 2007, at Melbeta United Methodist Church with Pastors Juan Espinoza and Grant Tanner officiating. Inurnment will be in Creighton Valley Cemetery at Melbeta. Cremation was at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory in Scottsbluff. Memorials may be made to Melbeta United Methodist Church, Panhandle Humane Society or Prairie Haven Hospice. Bob was born February 9, 1928, at Bridgeport, Nebraska to Harley G. and Lillian (Riddle) Tanner. He graduated from the Gering High School and attended the University of Colorado. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. On August 1, 1948, he married Virginia “Ginny” Gross at Gering. He traveled selling animal health products and the family lived in Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas during this time. He then owned and operated Tanner Livestock Products in North Platte for ten years. Following retirement he enjoyed golfing, yard work and grandkids. A special joy was training for lay speaking and he enjoyed leading the service at several small United Methodist Churches in the area. He was a member of the Melbeta United Methodist Church, American Legion and VFW. Survivors include his wife, Ginny Tanner; daughters, Robin Tanner of Omaha and Ellen (Dave) Shepherd of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; son, Frank (Deb) Tanner of North Platte; brother-in-law, Gene D. Watson of Mesa, Arizona; grandchildren, Bret Campbell of Scottsbluff, Chelsey (Justin) Johnson and Logan Campbell all of Johnstown, Colorado, Chris (Stacy) Tanner of Axtell, Josh Tanner of Lincoln and Dustin Shepherd of Shawnee Mission, Kansas; great-grandchildren Ashley Tanner of Elwood, Selina Campbell of Germany; and many special nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Betty Schlosser and Flossie Watson; brother, Harley G. Tanner Jr.; daughter, Lynn Campbell; best friend his poodle, Timmy; and parents-in-law, Bob and Rena (Randall) Gross.
