Retired Major Royal “Dick” L. Jackson Retired Major Royal “Dick” L. Jackson, 92 of Gering, Nebraska went to be with his Lord, Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at Regional West Medical Center. His funeral service will be held on Friday, April 3, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jake Roberts officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Inurnment will be held on Friday, May 22, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery with military honors by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the chapel. He was born on February 10, 1917 in Broken Bow, Nebraska to Richard and Rose W. (Boggs) Jackson. He graduated from high school and attended one year of extended college prep. He was awarded four Scholastic Scholarships. He married Grace Marie DeWitt on February 29, 1940 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He entered the U.S. Air Corp –Air Force in 1943 and was a Bombardier-Navigator. He was to fly in B25 #2 with 3” Gun as a Gunner. He was to go to Ogden, Utah to get a new crew and a new B25, that was the day the war was over and everything closed down as everyone was celebrating. He had one mission on a 93 Prop Tanker. Royal was honorably discharged in 1977 with the rank of Major. Royal was a prototype machinist, a craftsman of all artistic materials. He was co-owner for 25 years with the Valley Sporting Goods Co. Royal was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather, friend and counselor to many of the valleys youth. Royal was a past member of the First Christian Church of Scottsbluff. His father was a minister at the First Church of God in Broken Bow area. Survivors include daughter, Barbara June (Fowler) Sipp; granddaughters, Conny Ann (Lynn) Herdt, Nancy Jean “Sipp” Bauer and Michelle Marie Bauer; great grandsons, Travis L. Herdt, Kelly C. Herdt and Mason Allen Bauer and great great grandson, Noah Edward Bauer and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Cecil L. Jackson, Loren G. Jackson and Kenneth C. Jackson and sister, Inez Jackson Catterson.
