

Russell Leo Hight, passed away, Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Heritage Estates in Gering. His funeral service will be held on Monday, June 29, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel with Dr. Charles Bonds officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Heritage Estates or Prairie Haven Hospice. Russell was born October 5, 1915 in Norfolk, Nebraska to J.L. and Lula (Russell) Hight. He attended country school in eastern Nebraska. He came to the Gering valley in 1933. On August 8, 1940, he married Roena Shaul and they moved to Banner County where he farmed, ranched and had a water well service until they moved to Gering in 1965. He operated Hight Drilling and Well Service until he retired. After his retirement, he drove Handibus for Scotts Bluff County for 18 years and then worked as a greeter at Walmart for many years. He is survived by his wife, Roena of Gering; two daughters, Sharon (Monty) Sandberg of Harrisburg, NE. and Charolette (Wayne) Steele of Escondido, CA; three granddaughters and children, Shanna (Rob) Frey, Scott and Kayla of Blackhawk, SD; Shelie (RD) Laflin, Gus, Colt, Tate and Ellie of Olsburg, KS; Stacie (Jeff) Fullmer, Brady and Brant of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming; one grandson, Greg (Michelle) Steele, Avery of San Diego, CA. Also three brothers, Myrl “Curly” (Sylvia) Hight of Schleswig, IA; Neil (Betty) Hight of Scranton, IA and Elton (Miriam) Hight of Lake City, IA; two sisters, Darie Heck of Littleton, CO and Evelyn Rathgeber of Coleridge, NE; one brother-in-law, Martin Erickson of Auburn, IA and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, one brother, four brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law.
