With heavy hearts, we share that Thomas L. Gildea passed away on May 6, 2026, surrounded by love. While words can never fully capture the depth of who he was, we hope to honor a life that meant so much to so many.
Born on April 2, 1959, in Three Rivers, Michigan, to Cleon and Mary Margaret “Peggy” Gildea, Tom spent his childhood days playing baseball with his siblings: Judy, Mo, Jim, and Nancy, and neighborhood friends. Those carefree moments ignited a lifelong love of the game that never left him. Baseball became far more than a pastime; it was a true passion that ultimately led Tom to fulfill his dream of visiting every Major League Baseball stadium during his lifetime. Go Tigers!
After high school, Tom attended Michigan State University, a time he often reflected on with a smile. He loved reminiscing about the laughs, stories, parties, games, and friendships that shaped those years. Tom was a proud and lifelong Michigan State fan and could often be found yelling at the television when a shot was missed or yardage lost, all while texting friends about missed opportunities and debating every call during the game. Those moments, full of passion, humor, and connection, were pure Tom.
Tom built a successful career in upper administrative roles within the Third Party Health Insurance administration industry. His strong work ethic, practical approach, and dedication to getting things done earned the respect of colleagues wherever he went. His career took him to many places across the country, experiences he appreciated and embraced. Ultimately, that journey led him to Scottsbluff, Nebraska, where he began working for Regional Care, Inc. in October 2016.
Tom was competitive and ornery, quick on his feet, stubborn and bullheaded- traits balanced by his caring heart, deep compassion, and love of laughter. He had a way of keeping everyone around him on their toes while always making it clear how much he cared. Above all else, nothing compared to the passion he had for his family.
Tom was the proud father of three children: Ryan, Erin, and Patrick, each of whom married and expanded his world in ways that brought him immense joy. His greatest pride and most treasured possessions were his grandchildren: Emma, RB, Maggie, Jackie, Benny, Rosie, Little Patrick, and Naomi. Being their grandpa was one of the most meaningful and cherished roles of his life.
Later in life, Tom met Jamie, who would become his partner through his retirement years and a true gift in his life. He often referred to her as his guardian angel—the one he was always meant to find. Through Jamie, Tom was blessed with another loving family, including Ashton, Avery, and Avaya (“puppy”), who brought him even more joy, meaning, and unconditional love. Gifts that were and will be forever cherished.
