

Funeral services for Thomas C. McCarthy, age 72, of Scottsbluff, who died Friday, April 29, 2011, surrounded by friends and family at home, will be held Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., St. Agnes Catholic Church in Scottsbluff with Fr. Vince Parsons officiating. Burial will be the following day at 11 a.m. (CST) at St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery in Lexington. A rosary service will be Monday, May 2, 2011, at 6 p.m. at Dugan Kramer Memorial Chapel. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday. Donations may be made to Festival of Hope or Prairie Haven Hospice. Tom was born May 19, 1938, at Arnold, NE, to Neil and Frances (Mohatt) McCarthy. He received his education at Custer County schools, before graduating from Cozad High School in 1955. He served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1959. He married Twilla (George) on October 12, 1963, at Ericson, NE. They made their home in Cozad, Arapahoe, Scottsbluff and Rapid City, SD. They were blessed with three sons, David, Jim and Mark. Tom worked for Wayne’s Feed Store and Gillette Dairy for 24 years before retiring in 1998. He loved traveling the country and camping with family and friends. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, the Wagon Wheel Sam’s Club, Knights of Columbus, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 47 years, his three sons, David and his wife Dawn of Sturgis, SD, Jim of Omaha and Mark of Scottsbluff, five grandchildren and four step-grandchildren, his brothers Joe (Margie) of Ankeny, IA, Jerry (Pat) of Buxton, OR, and John (Bonnie) of Lipan, TX, sisters Mary (Harley) Nichelson of Eustis, and Patricia (Howard)Thomas of Olympia, WA, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Janet, brother Neil and grandson Nicholas.
