Douglas was born in Dallas, TX to Lethia and Earl Roberts. He grew up in Mesquite, TX, and then moved to Kaufman, TX, where he was known to many in the community as Doug and pappa.
Douglas began working at C & S Sales at 12 and often bought sports equipment to share with his siblings and neighbor friends. This was when his call to youth ministry was born, and later his ministry grew to touch many in his community. He was a devoted Christian and loved the Lord, showing how he touched many lives.
Douglas later purchased the C & S Sales business, where he met his wife Vickey. The two had a beautiful marriage of 49 years. Their love was remarkable and could be seen in just a touch between them. They both shared a dream to retire early and build a farm. They fulfilled their goal in 1987. Douglas loved his cows and chickens and shared life experiences with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Throughout his life, Douglas enjoyed water skiing, fishing, deer hunting, family vacations, and coaching youth sports.
After moving to Kaufman, he became involved in the Terrell Soccer association. Douglas later initiated the Kaufman Soccer association, where he directed, coached, and refereed many soccer games into his late 60s. He impacted many kids with his mentoring and coaching, not only the game but also life lessons.
