Eugene Ellis Edmonds left his loved ones for his Heavenly reward on April 16, 2015. He was born on December 28, 1930 to loving parents Holman Eugene Edmonds and Ophelia Parker Edmonds. He is preceded in death by his parents Holman and Ophelia, sister Mary Johnson and brothers Don Edmonds and Clifford Edmonds. Gene has two surviving sisters, Lou Disbrow and Pauline Mercer. Born in Fort Worth, TX, Gene’s family moved to the Oak Cliff section of Dallas when he was a child. Instilled in Gene early in life was a spirit of humility and service to a loving God and his church. Also being cultivated at this time by his father was a profound love of music. His family, with its Welsh heritage, had generations of singers, songwriters, instructors and musicians. At the tender age of five, he began singing in churches throughout Dallas with his father and two of his sisters. He later attended Crozier Tech High School where he met his loving wife of 64 years, Ruth Stout. Gene also attended SMU briefly. Shortly thereafter, he joined the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. During their 64 year union, Gene and Ruth were blessed with 3 children: Debbie Edmonds Callaway, David Eugene Edmonds and Gary Duane Edmonds. After his service in the Marine Corp, he began an almost 20 year career with the Ford Motor Co. in the Dallas Assembly Plant. Upon encouragement by a friend, he began a successful career in the insurance field, first with Employers Insurance of Texas followed by a period with the Farmers Insurance Group. He was recognized as a premier agent by both companies. Gene then retired and continued his life in serving God as an elder and song leader at the Seagoville Church of Christ. Over the years, hundreds were under his direction in various area choruses. In 1993 Gene began a labor of love as he and his son David formed the quartet, “His Harmony”. Traveling thousands of miles across this country and sharing the message of the risen Savior brought him immeasurable joy. Only recently was Gene unable to share his amazing gift. His loving family rejoices in his journey’s end but will miss him beyond words. Waiting to join him is his selfless companion and wife Ruth, daughter Debbie Callaway and husband Tony, son David Eugene Edmonds and wife Rhonda, son Gary Duane Edmonds and wife Laurie, all of Rockwall, TX. Also the treasures of 8 grandchildren: Brock Edmond Callaway and wife Schauna, Valerie Edmonds Dodson and fiancée Jason Budesa, Vincent David Eugene Edmonds, Emily Edmonds, Blake Callaway, Caroline Davis and husband Chase, Will Edmonds and Collin Edmonds; 6 great grandchildren: Hannah Ruth Dodson, Connor Ellis Callaway, Jaxson Callaway, Kaden Callaway, Avery Edmonds and Halle Callaway. “To be born Welsh is to be born privileged, not with a silver spoon in your mouth, but with music in your blood and poetry in your soul is a privilege indeed.” -from In Passing by Brian Harris 1967
