He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 75 years, Polly Hanes Lewis; daughter, Angela and son-in-law, Paul Young III of Aspen, CO; grandson, Paul Young IV; granddaughter, Sloan Young, both of Austin, TX; and two nephews and two nieces. He is predeceased by his parents, Byron and Ruby Lewis and his brother, Bill Lewis.
Harold was born in Seagoville, TX where he worked and lived until his death. He began his work career as a young boy in the family grocery business, G.W. Lewis and Sons, Combine and Seagoville, TX. He was associated with Mathis Funeral Home and Seago Motors. At the time of his death, he was still active in the family business, Newco Land Company.
His proudest accomplishment was serving his country in the United States Navy during World War II.
He was a member of The First Baptist Church, a lifetime member and past president of the Seagoville Lions Club, the Seagoville Chamber of Commerce, a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, The Elks Club, and other organizations and charities.
Harold, (our Papa) lived his life simply and always with integrity, compassion, humility and grace. He was blessed to count many lifetime friends and he cherished them all. As Will Rogers famously said, “I never met a man I didn’t like.” Harold never met a person he didn’t like, and if he did, he never told us!
Rest In Peace, Papa and dance with the angels.
