Nelda Jean Stephens, of Mesquite, TX passed away on December 11, 2023, at her home in Mesquite. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all who knew and loved her. She was born on February 17, 1933, in Gary, TX to Burt and Virgie Mae Johnson, the only daughter out of nine children. Growing up, her eight brothers were very protective and were always there to take care of her.
Nelda loved cooking big southern meals for her family and spending time with her grandchildren. After high school, she started her career in the field of nursing, which she loved, and was a natural caregiver. Once she became a mother, she decided to be a full-time homemaker, devoting her time and energy to caring for and loving her two sons.
Nelda is survived by sons, Rick Stephens and wife, Fannie; Randy Stephens; grandson, Aaron Stephens and wife, Francesca; granddaughter, Brittany Stephens; brothers, Lester Johnson and wife, Virginia; Larry Johnson and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, B.C. Stephens, parents, Burt and Virgie Mae Johnson, and brothers, M.B., Laverl, Leland, Allen, Cleon, and Richard.
