Mary Lou Julian, 77, of Seaside, California, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 24, 2026 surrounded by her loved ones in Monterey, California. She was born on January 30, 1948 in Carmel, California, to the late Evangelina (Carter) and Orencio Perez as the oldest of a family of five. On January 5, 1968 she married the love of her life, Wilfredo Julian, and they embarked on a journey of 55 years of marriage before his passing in 2023.
A beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, niece, aunt and lifelong friend, Mary Lou treasured every opportunity to be around those she loved. With a heart for hospitality, she had an open door policy in her home, considering every person she met as a friend. She enjoyed spending her time exploring genealogy, collecting jewelry, stamping cards, and taking trips with close friends and family.
She is survived by her brothers Richard Perez, Bobby Perez (Sally), sister Lucy Gomez (Manuel); sons Scott Julian (Jessica), Will Julian (Jaymie), and Stacy Julian (Jackie); nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Wilfredo and by her brother George.
We would also like to thank her doctors and CHOMP staff who went above and beyond despite the circumstances that she faced medically, her whole team proceeded to provide her with the best care. We appreciate the time, efforts and work that went into figuring out the best path forward to healing for her. Unfortunately she is no longer with us but your efforts have not gone unnoticed by our family and with the deepest gratitude we’d like to recognize those efforts: Dr Pablo Veliz, primary care doctor; Dr Kearnan Welch, her endocrinologist; Dr Steven Lome, her cardiologist; Dr Lulu Zhang, her oncologist; Dr Kahn, the hospitalist; Drs Katrina Fischer and Nancy Tray, oncologist and Dr. Sky Vanderburg, ICU doctor as well as the nurses: Christina and Tasha on TW, Lisa on GW, Laura Finn and Hannah Harville in ICU.
We also would like to acknowledge Dharma Naidu, Palliative Medicine. Where and how do we even begin to “Thank You”? You worked hard in educating our family of the situation and the reality of her prognosis; being our advocate between nursing and security trying to get our family in to see Mary Lou towards the end. You also went above and beyond working hard making sure Mary Lou was kept comfortable and without pain.
With heartfelt thanks,
The Julian and Perez Family
