

She had 1 sister, Priscilla Delaney-Walker aka “Punkin”. Alice Mae, Punkin & Mae moved to Seattle when Alice was very young and lived on 25th and Yesler with their large extended family in a household of 12; (Grandmother “Momma”, Grandfather “Daddy” Aunts; “Lula” & “Nanny”, Uncle Rooster, and cousins Bobby, Junie, Michael, and Debbie Hibbitt). She attended Leschi Elementary, Washington Middle School and Garfield High School.
Alice met Louisiana native, Hayward Coleman while he was stationed at Fort Lewis MChord Base. They married on April 3, 1967 and were married 45 years before his passing in 2012. Alice was preceded in death by her youngest son Aaron Russell Coleman in 2002. She is survived by her children, Otis “Sputty” Ward (Aesa), Katrina “Trina” Piper (Ronald), and Hayward Coleman Jr.”Man-Man” (Rebekah); her 13 grandchildren: Marcus, Relasha, Akim, Brianna, Christian, Jordan, Tyshawn, Jada, Jalynn, Messiah, Brendan, Jayden, and Tiera. She also had 25 great-grandchildren, along with some great-great grands, and a host of other cherished family members.
Alice’s greatest joy was her family. She was a cornerstone, providing unconditional love, wisdom, and support that held her loved ones together. Her family home was always a place of laughter, filled with home-cooked meals, holiday get-togethers and birthday celebrations. Everyone who came to Alice Mae’s & Hayward’s were welcome and treated like family. Other favorite family things to do were camping, fishing and traveling.
Alice received her B.A. in Counseling, and her Master’s degree in Education with Administrative credentials. She worked in many capacities with Children and Families; she was a Home School Liaison and a High School Counselor for the Seattle Public Schools, a College Instructor in the Seattle Community Colleges, A Certified Vocational Counselor at Renton Vocational Technical College, and she retired with the Renton School District as a Renton High School Vice Principal in 2006. Alice also continued her work as the founder & Executive Director of Coleman’s Family Services Mental Health Agency, which through her legacy, now continues to serve others as a non-profit entity.
Alice was baptized into Christ in her 70’s and faithfully attended Faith Deliverance AOH and later moved to the Southside Church of Christ, where she was fed spiritually, attended Sunday school and Bible study and developed her relationship with God for over the last decade of her life on earth.
