Angelene Lindsey passed away on February 10th in Seattle at the age of 91. She was born in Bellingham to John Demos, an immigrant from Greece, and Mary Elizabeth Ferguson from Minnesota. Angelene graduated from Bellingham High School in 1948. She met the love of her life, Thad Lindsey from Clipper, at a drive-in restaurant in Bellingham when they were teenagers. They married in 1950. When they were both 29 years old, they bought and operated their own drive-in restaurant in Seattle. By that time, they had three children: Mary Lindsey from Bellingham, John Lindsey (Mary K) from Lake Forest Park, and Susan Lindsey from Shoreline. They all worked at the A&W Drive-In and learned the value of hard work and working together as a family.
As a child, Angelene enjoyed playing the piano, spending time at Birch Bay, and playing school with her four nieces who were only three to 10 years younger. Her adoring father raised her alone after her mother died when she was 12 years old.
As an adult, Angelene loved spending time with her four grandchildren: Brandon Lindsey (Jenny), Christopher Lindsey, Shawn Lindsey, and Kathryn McCoy (Brandon). She was thrilled to become a great-grandmother to Lewis and Leah (Brandon & Jenny’s children). She was also a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews who called her Aunt Cookie. Angelene became an avid fan of the Seahawks and followed other teams so that she could share the joy of sports with her grandkids. She also enjoyed the many trips that she and her daughters took to Maui before the pandemic.
Angelene provided love and care to her husband, Thad, for the 25 years he had Parkinson’s Disease. He preceded her in death by 11 years. Angelene was blessed with good health during her 91 years. The only time she was in the hospital during the last 20 years was on her last day of life. She died peacefully with her three children by her side.
Angelene always kept up with the local news and liked to know what was going on in her community and the surrounding areas. She particularly enjoyed hearing stories of people helping others. Angelene also voted in every election and made sure to submit her ballot to support the school levy this week.
Donating to charities was important to Angelene. Please consider contributing to a charity of your choice in her memory.
