Memories are wonderfully comforting when a loved one passes. Arnold James Wolff (Jim/Papa) left this world on Friday, October 27, 2017, having given his loving wife Marianne, his children Leslie Wolff (Jim Simondet), Cynthia Wolff, Aaron Wolff (Amy), his very special grandchildren Julia Simondet, Alex (A.J.) Wolff, Ari Wolff, Zoe Wolff, his brother-in-law Richard Helzer (Susan), and a community of loyal friends, with priceless memories that will not be forgotten. Jim was born on April 30, 1934 in Seattle, Washington. He was the son of Irwin and Mildred Wolff and is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Robert (Bobby) Wolff. Jim graduated from Garfield High School in 1952 and attended the University of Washington. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army. Jim prospered as the Northwest Representative and Distributor for Bassett Furniture. Jim’s transparency, honesty and reliability earned him professional respect in the competitive furniture markets. Following his retirement, Jim devoted himself to Marianne, his children, and at the center of his heart, his four grandchildren. Papa was always there for his family and together they became the Wolff Pack. With his retirement, a day in Jim’s life included his family, friends, a hot shower or two, a steaming cup of “Jo,” a turkey sandwich with extra mayo on the side, many vigorous walks, and cogent conversation with humorous anecdotes. Daily, Jim exhibited kindness, concern and empathy for all. The family is very grateful to Dr. Hank Kaplan, who was Jim’s guardian angel, Swedish Hospital’s doctors, nurses, care providers, and his home caregivers, Brenda, Sylvie, and Melbie. At the end, Jim charted the precarious lines between life and death with dignity and courage. The family requests any remembrances be contributed to the Kaplan Cancer Research Fund c/o Swedish Foundation, 747 Broadway, Seattle, WA 98104, Temple de Hirsch Sinai, or the Stroum Jewish Community Center.
