Betty grew up with a warm and giving spirit, which became the hallmark of her life. She graduated from Lincoln High School. She worked for a long time in the restaurant industry, but eventually worked as a travel agent, a job that perfectly matched her love of exploring new places. Following three back surgeries, Betty transitioned to disability but continued to pour her energy into her family, her home, and her many interests.
A longtime member of Gateway Church in Tacoma, Betty’s life was defined by her generosity and care for others. She was a wonderful cook, always ensuring everyone had a full plate and a full heart. Her spaghetti, potato salad, pies, and cookies were family favorites and will remain cherished memories for those who loved her.
In her youth, Betty was a professional roller skater, and as an adult, she developed a passion for golf. She loved to travel, listen to music, and spend hours on arts and crafts projects. She was a dedicated Seattle Mariners fan, often tuning in to cheer for her team. With her green thumb, she nurtured vibrant flowers and a thriving vegetable garden. Her warm hugs and kind words were constants in the lives of her family and friends.
Betty married Jay Hensley, and together they built a life together until Jay’s passing on August 12, 2021.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Helen; her sisters, Marge and Jackie; and her twin brother, Bill.
She is survived by her children: Patty, George, Sue, and Tami; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love, generosity, and strength lives on in all of them.
We are going to miss this warm woman of family, Betty, but will cherish the memories she made with us, deeply in our hearts forever.
