
Born in the Palouse area of Eastern Washington on June 9, 1919, Cy passed away Oct. 12, 2010. He graduated from Columbia High School in 1936 with a class of fewer than a dozen, and from Eastern Washington College in 1940. Later he earned both his M.A. and Doctorate of Education degrees at the University of Washington.
He began teaching at Mineral Elementary School in 1940, where he met his future wife, Ruth May Evans. Cy served in the U.S. Army as a second lieutenant, including at Pearl Harbor at the time of the attack. Following the war, he went to work for the Shoreline School District, then the Seattle Public School District, including as an administrator at such schools as Lake City and Haller Lake elementary schools, and at Hamilton and Whitman junior high schools.
Cy was a member of the Haller Lake United Methodist Church for more than 60 years, where he was in the choir and served on numerous committees.
He is preceded in death by his wife and oldest son, Robert Earl. He is survived by sons Donald and Jon, and their wives, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15 at Haller Lake United Methodist Church, 13055 1st Ave. N.E. Seattle. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Haller Lake United Methodist Church, the Alzheimer's Association, or a charity of choice.
