Debra Ann Castleberry Spicer was born in Seattle on September 22, 1953, to Gene Michael and Edith Grace Castleberry. She was the second of five siblings: following Michael, and then followed by Jimmy, Lauri, and Don. Debra is part of the Gros Ventre Native American Tribe, the Assiniboine Native American Tribe, and Seneca Native American Tribe. After high school she met Gary Balmert Sr. through her brother Mike. She became Debra Ann Balmert December 30th, 1972, when she married Gary. Debra became a stay-at-home mother to Lisa, when she was born in 1974 and she learned how to drive, and she had her second child Gary Jr. in 1976. In 1980 she got her Certified Nurse Assistant certificate and worked for Northwest Hospital in Seattle for many years, until her work life was interrupted by a car accident in 1999. Debra loved the holidays. Her favorite being Christmas. She loved all the decorations, the tree, and the colorful lights. Christmas tapped into her generous giving spirit; she loved giving gifts. The floor under and around her tree was packed with gifts for her children and grandchildren. Debra was a woman all about family. In December of 2004, her life changed when Gary Sr. passed away. The family came together to be there for her even though she was being strong on her own and show her the support she had shown them. Late 2005 Debra reconnected with Steve Spicer, an old friend from high school, and on August 14th, 2006, became Debra Ann Spicer. Debra quickly taught Steve that family is everything to her. In January of 2017 Debra faced losing her second husband Steve. Which again she turned to her family to help her through this tough time. She taught her family to always be there for one another no matter what. Debra touched many lives. She was a strong woman who faced a lot in her life and who loved the people in her life. She taught her kids and grandkids how to respect others. And to laugh at yourself. And not to take life so seriously. Debra Ann Spicer passed away on Friday, March 31, 2023. She was 69 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents Gene and Edith, her brothers Mike and Don, and her husbands Gary Sr. and Steve. She is survived by her brother Jimmy, sister Lauri, her two children Lisa Balmert and Gary Balmert Jr., her two grandchildren Jonathan and Alicia, her step grandkids Kenzie and Audrey, and her great grandson Carson and many other friends and family.
