Donald Paul McKillop, 85, of Woodinville, was born in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho on September 3, 1928 to the late James and Lauretta McKillop, and died December 21, 2013. His family moved to Seattle when he was 4, then to the Bothell area when he was 9. While at Bothell High School, Don played both baseball and football, and was an all-conference center under coach Pop Keeney. After graduating high school in 1946, he attended Everett Junior College on a football scholarship, coached by Walt Price. In 1950 he was drafted and sent to the Korean War where he was a surgical tech/combat medic.
After the war, Don resumed his pipefitter apprenticeship, and went to work for Navarre Mechanical, eventually becoming Vice President and General Manager. When Navarre Mechanical closed, he moved to Bumstead-Woolford, and finished his tenure there as President. When Donald left Bumstead-Woolford, he co-founded and was President of Industrial Power Corporation. This is where he finished his career in 1993, working with the people he had met along the way, who had become more than business associates, but dear friends.
Don was involved in many professional and community organizations including: DeMolay; a lifetime Mason (Bothell Lodge); American Legion (Bothell); 4 terms President of the Mechanical Contractors Association (Northwest Chapter); awarded the Robert W. Leichnitz Award for Washington State Contractor of the Year (1988); 5 terms President of the Seattle Plumbing and Pipefitters Employers; 7 years Chairman of the UA & Mechanical Contractors Association Trust; 7 years a panel judge for the American Arbitration Association; 2 years King County Library Board (Richmond Beach); 2 terms Moderator for the Richmond Beach Congregational Church.
His accomplishments are many and varied, but that only partially tells who Don really was. Following his return from Korea, he went on a blind date, fell in love, and, on June 5, 1954, married Gloria Webb. Don and Gloria have two children, Mark and Lori. Our dad was an honest and honorable man who was trusted by all who knew him. Dad was also devoted to his family. He was our Mom's best friend, protector, provider, and soulmate for 59 years of marriage. He was our biggest fan and supporter, and we never questioned his love for us. As a family, we enjoyed many activities together - vacations, hiking and camping, skiing, and lots of football games - attending Husky games for many seasons, and since 1976 attending Seahawks games as charter season ticket holders.
Don will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gloria, his son, Mark, his daughter, Lori and her husband Jeff Hays.
