

Doris Elizabeth Brown age 99, passed away, 8/1/2022, in Seattle Washington. She was born 7/14/1923 in Chariton Iowa but has been a resident of West Seattle for over fifty years.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Brown of 37 years and her daughter, Teri Lynn Rutherford.
She is survived by two sons and two daughters in law. Rodney and Jane Rutherford of Beaver Dam Arizona and Stanley and Lynne Rutherford of Burgaw North Carolina.
Doris had 8 grandchildren, Amy Hill of Filer Idaho, Stephen Rutherford of Boise Idaho, Jenny Lutterman of Denver Colorado, Brian Rutherford of Arvada Colorado, Andi Wolf Jones of Las Vegas Nevada, Julie Wolf Hammonds of Boise Idaho, Hannah Rutherford Hagendoorn of Burgaw North Carolina, and Jacob Rutherford of Burgaw North Carolina. Doris had 16 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She had 3 brothers, Raymond,Earl, and Cecil Gartin all deceased who she remained close with including her many nieces and nephews.
Doris spent her early years in Buhl Idaho on a farm raising her 3 children. While in Buhl, she was active in the Moose Lodge and the Baptist church. She had many cherished friends in the area. Following her move to Seattle, she cooked for the Sea Tac airport for many years. Cooking was one of Doris’ claim to fame, from preparing meals for her family and farm workers in Buhl to school cafeterias. Always ready with a peach cobbler for guests.
Her other mastery was making friends no matter where she lived. Friends and family were her guiding light. Famous for sending cards, well wishes, and greetings throughout the country. Upon her move to Providence Mt. St. Vincent, she became fast friends with many residents and staff, always wanting to take care of others. There was no person she did not want to know. This included singing a song to others to brighten their day. A favorite was always “ You are My Sunshine”.
Turns out, Doris was our sunshine.
