Dorothy Mae Sjodin passed away peacefully on January 6, 2022. She was blessed to leave this world on her own terms, with the chance to say goodbye, and with her daughters by her side. She was kind and gentle, but also strong and independent, with a deep love for her family, who loved her dearly in return.
Dorothy Kammerer was born on November 8, 1931 in Racine, Wisconsin. She was the youngest of four girls born to Gottlieb and Lydia. Most of her childhood was spent in northwestern Washington, working on the family farm from a young age, gathering eggs, milking cows and tending and harvesting the garden. After graduation from Ferndale High School, she worked various jobs in the area, continuing a strong work ethic that lasted throughout her life.
Dorothy met the love of her life, Roy Sjodin, at the Cook Road Dance Hall, and they were married on January 12, 1952. They had three girls, and lived in the house they built together in Mount Vernon, Washington until moving to Seattle in 1965. While raising their daughters, Dorothy worked at the University of Washington, retiring from the Tuition Office in 1991.
Dorothy and Roy enjoyed life, doing practically everything together - archery, traveling, and working side by side to build and remodel their homes. They loved to dance and it was wonderful to watch them twirling in each other’s arms. They also loved to camp, and their children and grandchildren have many precious memories of camping and fishing - great times in tents and trailers, sitting by the fire roasting marshmallows and hotdogs, playing games and telling stories.
After her husband Roy’s passing in 2014, Dorothy continued to live in the home they shared together before moving to an apartment at Ida Culver Broadview where she enjoyed the beautiful sunsets over the Olympic mountains. She made wonderful new friends, and had such a positive impact with her warmth and friendly spirit.
Dorothy will be greatly missed by her three daughters, Sandy Crispien (Larry), Karen Boze (Mike) and Lori Klebeck (Jack), seven grandchildren (Aimee, TJ, Elizabeth, Erin, Shannon, Kelly and Maggie) and eight great-grandchildren (Logan, Jaxson, Dylan, Sophia, Alice, Hannah, Dorothy (Dottie), and Gunnar.) We will continue to be inspired by her strength and kindness, and appreciate all the love she shared with us.
Dorothy will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony at Evergreen-Washelli Memorial Park, Seattle.
A Memorial Service for friends and family to celebrate the life of Dorothy, will be scheduled at a later date.
