Elsie Mae passed away on September 13, 2021 at the age of 90, a week after the passing of her beloved husband of almost 59 years, Ray. She was born on July 29, 1931 in Redlands, California to parents Truman and Burnadean Sliger. After graduating from Snohomish High School in 1949, she began working at Peoples National Bank holding various positions within the bank. After meeting Ray at the bank, a courtship ensued culminating in their marriage on December 29, 1962. Elsie enjoyed using her skills as a pianist to serve the Lord for many years at Overlake Christian Church in Kirkland, WA playing accompaniment for the choir and helping to lead the worship services on Sundays. She also enjoyed sewing clothes for her family.
Ray passed away on September 6, 2021 at the age of 106. He was born on June 23, 1915 in Victoria BC to parents Robert and Jessie Barclay. His family moved to the Seattle area in 1920, and he graduated from Edmonds High School in 1934. Ray was drafted into the army in June 1942 and served as a surgical technician spending time during WWII at the 188th Station Hospital in Greenland and McCaw General Hospital in Walla Walla. He was honorably discharged in December 1945 as a Technical Sergeant and soon thereafter began a 35 year career in banking at Peoples National Bank where he met his beloved wife Elsie. Ray had a passion for gardening and took pride in the beautiful flowers he would grow in his immaculately maintained yard.
Elsie and Ray shared a love of Christ throughout their many years together. After Ray's retirement in 1981, they enjoyed traveling the world on numerous cruises. They also both enjoyed vacationing in Hawaii and would travel there at least once a year. They are survived by twin sons Doug Barclay and Don Barclay (Pattie), and grandsons Michael Barclay (Sarah) and Ryan Barclay along with numerous nieces and nephews.
