Evan was born August 20, 1995. It was a time of great joy. He attended Serene Lake Elementary, Voyager Middle School, Mariner High School and most recently ACES High School, where he looked forward to graduating next June.
From the moment he could speak, Evan was making plans. As a toddler he would call his Grandma or Grandpa Block asking to "fend the night" - the phrase quickly became part of the family vocabulary. Often he would call to have bedtime stories read to him over the phone.
Family was important to Evan. Like many older brothers, Evan enjoyed teasing his sisters. However, as they grew up - and especially over the last four months - Evan made a conscious effort to be a kind and loving brother. He wanted to become a better role model to his sisters.
Evan loved snow boarding with his best friend David, playing basketball, football, and working out. Evan was handy at fixing things and he was a good cook. Recovery had made Evan happier these last four months and he showed it with his kindness. He helped a lot of people with their own recovery. Recently, Evan was volunteering in Edmonds serving dinner to the homeless he said enjoyed this because he felt like he was helping others. His friends have also shared that he was always smiling and encouraging them to graduate.
Evan's road was not always a smooth one but in spite of the obstacles he faced, Evan maintained his love of making plans and a positive outlook on life. Last summer, during his stay at Sundown M Ranch he was given an assignment asking him to share 10 attributes or characteristics which he felt would best describe him. The list below is what he shared - he kept this in his room after he came home. For those who knew him best, these ten words accurately and eloquently depict Evan's personality and spirit.
1. Intelligent 6. Sincere
2. Loving 7. Outgoing
3. Caring 8. Positive Attitude
4. Open-Minded 9. Observant
5. Willing 10. Patient
Sincere thanks to family, friends, classmates, teachers and school administrators who have offered their love and support during this difficult time. Evan's death at such a young age is a tragedy, yet his memory will resonate with us forever.
