
John G. Hendricks, age 92, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 7th, 2013. John was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Doris K. Hendricks. He is survived by his daughter, Jeanne Ward (Robert) and sons Stanley (Bonnie) and Paul (Kathy) and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. John is also survived by his sister Perdy Carlson.
John was born on February 7th, 1921 and immigrated from Aurdal, Norway in 1930 with his mother, three brothers, and a sister. His father had come to Alaska in 1923 to fish halibut to earn passage for the family on the Stavangerfjord. John graduated from North Kitsap High School, married his sweetheart from South Kitsap High School, and went commercial fishing in California and Alaska before learning the electrical trade. He was a marine electrician, electrical foreman and ultimately superintendent of ship repair at the big yards in the 1950's before going to work at Lunde Electric in Ballard. In 1961, he started Hendricks Electric where he retired from in 1983. John was a member of Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church for over 55 years, a life member of the Norwegian Commercial Club and a retired board member at the Nordic Heritage Museum.
An open house in celebration of John's life will be held on Saturday, November 16th, 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Nordic Heritage Museum, 3014 N.W. 67th St., Seattle, WA 98117. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nordic Heritage Museum or your favorite charity.
