Born in Lynden, WA, John has resided in Seattle over 80 years. Passed away peacefully at Foss Home and Village after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Leona Vander Hoek, who emigrated from Holland. He is survived by sisters, Katherine Bauer (Laurence, deceased) of Henderson, NV and Tena Carver (Harry) of Mukilteo; nephews, Larry Bauer (Kaylene) and Gary Bauer (Caroline) of Henderson, NV; niece, Sharon Gaskell (Arthur) of Pueblo, CO and a number of great nephews and nieces. Thanks to the staff at Foss Home and Swedish Hospital Hospice for their support of John and his family in his final days. Also a special thanks to a previous caregiver, Billie Moore. Private family services on Friday, March 25th at 1pm at Evergreen-Washelli, 11111 Aurora Ave. N., Seattle 98133.
