

Born May 5th, 1932 the first child of Fred and Eloise Roth in the small farm town of Winlock, WA - John Roth Jr. passed peacefully away at his home in Monroe, WA in the early hours of May 29th 2017. John is survived by his loving wife, brother, 6 children, 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
In life John was generous of spirit, rich in talent, and a shining example of vibrant living. During his educational years in Winlock, John was a star student, athlete and farmer. He graduated salutatorian of his class in 1950 and his talents on the football field earned him a scholarship and a place on the Husky Football team at the University of Washington. While serving in the Army Corp of Engineers stationed in Japan, John was selected to play for the Far East Command All Star Army Football team.
John went on to a career as a civil engineer on the Eastside of Seattle and was a partner of his own firm of consulting engineers for 42 years in Bellevue, WA. His professional passion led he and his team to build a company which eventually blossomed into his pride and joy Roth Hill Engineering Partners, LLC. As a family man, John coached, and was franchise manager of the Cottage Lake Northshore Little League. During this time he helped to develop rolling hay fields into the now thriving little league fileds in Woodinville. The young Roth family of 8 moved to Monroe, WA in 1974 to begin a family business. Sky Valley Ranch produced and sold over one hundred head of cattle per year for nearly 30 years until the family grew and John decided to refocus to strictly engineering. John enjoyed teaching his children and mentoring all those he came in contact with. He served as a boy scout leader, tutored neighbor's children, coached baseball, was a church youth leader, sunday school teacher and an elder of his church for almost his entire adult life. His passions also included teaching adult Bible study and mentoring the next generations of church elders. He enjoyed spending time tinkering and working on model planes and 3D puzzles at the beach in Ocean Shores. He and Patricia spent quality time relaxing on cruises and traveling around the world experiencing different cultural cuisines. Among their favorites include hidden gems in our Great Northwest, New Orleans, and the Mediterranean.
Most recently, He enjoyed looking over his family property in Monroe and spending time with his wife, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, sister Marian, and son Robert. A viewing will be held at Lifetime Celebrations by Washelli in Bothell, WA on Monday June 12th between 2 and 8pm for those wishing to pay their final respects. A memorial service will be held at Lamb of God Lutheran Church located on the Zion Lutheran School campus at 3923 103rd Ave SE. Lake Stevens, WA 98258 on Saturday June 17th at 2 in the afternoon. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please make donations to the Ouanaminthe, Haiti Orphanage Fund at Lamb of God. Or to St. Jude's Research Hospital.
