Johnny Mack Henton

Mr. Johnny Mack Henton was born to the late Eurel "Frank" Henton, Sr. and Ozell Howard Henton on June 5, 1936 in Cheneyville, Louisiana. While at home on December 29, 2016 Johnny lost his 9 year battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family.

Johnny graduated from Carter C. Raymond High School in 1954 and immediately enlisted in the US Navy. While enlisted, he received an AA degree from Palomar Junior College in Escondido, CA. He also was united in holy matrimony to Christina Walls on March 4, 1961 and to this union three children were born.

Johnny served in the US Navy for 22 years and retired as a Master Chief Petty Officer in 1977. His last tour of duty was at NAS Whidbey Island Naval Air Station. He continued to utilize his electronics expertise as an employee for GTE until 1992.

Johnny resided in Oak Harbor, WA from 1974-2012 where he was an active member of the community. He coached youth soccer, football, and softball; attended Oak Harbor Southern Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School; was a member of Oak Harbor Black Citizens Association where he was a corner stone of the annual "Soul Food Fest" fundraiser; and was on the Police Community Advisory Board. He spent many years enjoying his favorite past times of camping, fishing, and striving to be a master gardener. Four years ago, he moved to Marysville, Washington to be closer to his children and his grandchildren. While here in Marysville, he established new friendships and attended the Grove Church.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings (Carrie Anderson, Nathan and Eurel Henton). Johnny leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 55 years, Christina Walls Henton; and three children, Brian (Shelly) Henton, Tressa (Dwaine) Randall, and John (Cher) Henton; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Memorial services for Johnny Mack Henton, 80, of Marysville, WA will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at The Grove Church, 4705 Grove St, Marysville, WA 98270.

A private interment will follow at a later date.
