

She was born to Nathan R. Foster and Mary Rowlands June 25, 1913 in Valier, Montana.
Katherine was raised in Seattle, where she graduated from Franklin High School and Cosmetology School. In the late 1930's she married the love of her life Richard "Bus" Boyd, an executive with the Northern Commercial Company in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Katherine was an accomplished artist in oil painting and charcoal. She spent much of her adult life in Alaska visiting the natives in their villages on the company's outposts. Much of her art work is devoted to these experiences and have been displayed in various places throughout the state. Tootsie coordinated and finished the art on a quilt containing scenes of many Historical Alaska events and objects. It is currently on display in Whitehorse, Alaska.
After their retirement in 1957, she and Bus moved to Seattle and became owner/managers of a laundry and dry cleaning business in nearby Bellevue. Lucille Olson, (her sister), was a great contributor in making this a very successful business.
Tootsie was an active lifetime member of the of the Alaska Yukon Pioneers of Seattle club since 1978. She was also a member of the Pioneers of Alaska club in Fairbanks. She and Bus were active contributors to and supporters of the University of Alaska and their scholarship programs for business and fine arts students.
Katherine is predeceased by her husband Richard "Bus" Boyd. She is survived by:
Lucille Olson, sister
Rowland "Rolly" Foster, brother
Rickard "Rick"Olson, nephew
and several other nephews, nieces, and cousins.
