My Dad, Dave, and Leigh met as the first two residents at Vineyard Park.  They become best of friends.  Dad called Leigh, "My best buddy."  After Dad passed away in Dec '06 we continued to see Leigh and he said he always expected us to come see him because he considered us part of his extended family.  We'll always feel the same way.

I am thankful that I was given the chance to have known a man named Leighton Howard; I knew him as "Lee".
Lee always wanted to make people laugh, he was in his element when he was telling stories and jokes. There was always a smile on his face and he brought smiles to the faces of everyone he met. That was Lee, that is how I remember him; wanting to make everyone happy!
Lee will forever be missed, but I know in the right time, I will meet him again and heâ€™ll make me laugh to tears ... 'again'

Although we did not have the pleasure to meet you, we feel we know you through are dear friends Linda and Harry and Bri. We have heard many wonderful stories about you and there is no question that Linda loved you so and will have such a void in her life without you, but, she is well loved and surrounded by many to help her thru. Be at peace Lee and God Bless you forever.

Uncle Leighton always had a smile on his face, and tons of jokes to tell. He would go on forever with his jokes, and bring tears of laughter to your face. Your stomach would be hurting so bad, but you were waiting for more. 
   My foundest memories of Uncle Leighton were "hands down" Lake Curlew!!! I remember when Uncle leighton caught a fish, and the next morning he was standing so proud as he fried his fish in a frying pan. Of course we have a picture of that "special" event. Uncle Leighton, Auntie Joan, and my parents would rent the famous green cabin every year, and all of us kids slept on the porch. One night, Uncle Leighton got a hold of my Dad, and started his jokes. He had my Dad rolling on the floor with laughter. It was getting late, and my Mom and Auntie Joan had had enough and sent them to bed. They snuck out of their bedroom windows and continued. Us kids on the porch, had heard everything and were laughing as well. Needless to say, Uncle Leighton and my Dad got in trouble. I will always remember Uncle Leighton's two famous jokes from Lake Curlew... "The One Legged Duck", and "Quiet Stew".
   When Steve came into my life and met Uncle Leighton for the first time, he had mentioned how comfortable Uncle Leighton made him feel right away, and that Uncle Leighton made sure that Steve was welcomed into the family.
   I will dearly miss Uncle Leighton. there will never be another like him!!! May he rest peacefully with Auntie Joan and with God.

Leighton was such a gentle and kind soul.  He was also a very generous father who has left so many gifts in this world.  He will be missed by everyone who's lives have been touched by this wonderful man.

A fine man, a good husband and father and friend. He and your mom are together again and that makes us all glad.That is as it should be.He is no longer suffering but finally at peace.Our condolances are sent to your whole family.

I love and miss my uncle leighton very much. My best memories of him is when he used to shake my hand really hard and it would hurt for days.Somtimes it still does!!!! I love you, your nephew Ted

"Uncle Leighton" ... was fondly loved by myself and every person in our family and so many other people too. He absolutely had the most energy and the greatest personality our family had to offer. Although I never did beat him in a handshake, I know GOD willing ... I'll have a second chance.

Farewell, Leigh, and condolences to your family.  You were a glad heart here
at Vineyard Park and its first resident.

Sorry to hear of Lee's passing.  I met him through my mother at the Vineyard.  He gave me a couple of his lamps last year.  His personality always shone a light as well every time we saw him. Even after all the medical problems he faced, his sense of humor and positive attitude perservered.   Best to all of his children.

We net Leigh at the Vineyard when he and John's brother moved in at the same time.  They became great friends from the start and as Dave's memory failed, Leigh was so kind to him - signing him up for excursions, reminding and taking him to the in house movies and activites.  We always enjoyed talking to Leigh when we visited Dave and discussing the latest book he was reading. He was a real gentleman.
