Linda was born on April 2, 1948 in Santa Barbara, California to Dorothy and John Potter. She loved growing up in Santa Barbara where her dad rose to become the assistant fire chief and her parents frequently entertained guests and threw spirited social gatherings. She went to the University of Santa Barbara and San Jose State, in California, where she earned a degree in Child Psychology. She married her high school sweet heart, Lee Meyer, on September 6, 1969. Linda held a number of jobs during the next few years including working as a bank teller and as a nursing aide, and sometime Spanish translator, in a women's reproductive care clinic in San Jose. She moved to Edmonds, Washington, in 1977 with her husband and her two baby boys.
Linda had many interests. She was an advocate for those in need establishing Teen Hope, a shelter for abused and homeless teens, in the early 1980's. She was an author who wrote over a dozen books on child safety and other topics. She started The Charles Franklin Press to publish those books and ran it out of her home for 14 years. Linda loved to sing and was a member of the Sweet Adeline's Pacific Sound Chorus for several years before helping to establish the Voices Northwest Chorus.
After they both retired Linda and Lee found joy RVing with their dog Molly. When it turned cold in Washington they headed out to see the US with long stops in warm and sunny south Texas. She liked visiting new places and particularly liked the opportunity that travel gave her to meet new people. She could strike up a conversation with anyone. As fun as that was she insisted on returning home every spring and summer to be with her grandchildren.
Linda delighted in making memories with her family. Parties, pillow fights, a cruise, root beer floats, sewing and painting lessons were just a few of the ways she did that. She was a free spirit and she will be dearly missed.
Linda is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Lee, her two sons, Matthew and Joshua, her five grandchildren, Makenzi, Alana, Bryn, Tobey and Tavish, and her older brother Jim Potter.
