Lois Rex, age 91, beloved wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, and friend to so many, passed away on October 21, 2023 of heart failure. During her final hours, she was surrounded by her cherished husband Bill and family, whom she loved more than anything else in the world. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, love, gratitude, generosity, and warmth that will live with all of us forever.
Lois, known also as Lolo to the many who loved her, grew up in the Midwest with her adored parents and two sisters. In high school, she was the May Queen, class Valedictorian, performer in many drama productions, and member of many clubs and activities, where she met and began dating Bill. They both attended Grinnell College and married after graduation. A short teaching career ended with motherhood, and she then began a lifetime of family, activities, and community service. Lois was a member of Seattle Golf Club, Rainier Club, Sunset Club, Useless Bay Golf Club, Pathfinders, Washington Athletic Club, and Thunderbird Golf Club in Rancho Mirage. She devoted a lifetime of service and support to Ryther League, Northwest Hospital UW, The Museum of Flight, Seattle Public Schools, her church, and as a speaker for the Lou Tice Institute. Lois always put others first and left the world a better place for those who knew her and the organizations that she devoted her time, energy, and resources to.
Lolo was hilariously creative and loved singing and performing, always with costumes involved. She was a gifted singer and talented piano player. Her legendary songs, musicals, and shows, all written on her manual typewriter, are remembered by family and friends alike and were hits at their various clubs and business conventions for Foster and Marshall. Her funny stories, costumes, and antics were treasures and will never be forgotten.
Lois and Bill enjoyed years of golf, tennis, and fun with family and friends at Whidbey Island, Chelan, Maui, and Rancho Mirage, along with various adventures worldwide. Lolo adored playing bridge and doing the daily crossword puzzle. Her weekly Bible Studies were important to her. Lois was well read and knowledgeable on world events. She enjoyed watching and participating in sports, especially cheering on the Huskies on game days. Lolo tried to attend all her grandkids games and performances. She was their biggest fan. Wherever she was, she was constantly upbeat and a great listener. She was quick with praise and encouragement, always making others feel important and remembered.
Lois is survived by her beloved husband Bill of 69 years, loving daughters Debbie (Jeff) Halstead and Anne (Dave) Hall, Marcie Rex, treasured grandchildren Kimmy (Charlie) Hensel, Brandon Hall, Joey Halstead, Billy (Micaela) Rex, Stephanie (Nick Schonewald) Rex, Nicole Hall, numerous nieces and nephews, and her faithful dog Roxy. Her five great-grandkids James, William, and Annie Hensel, Elle Rex, and Addie Schonewald brought her immense joy. Lois was preceded in death by her cherished son Wally Rex and grandson John Halstead. Lois adored her family and loved times spent together more than anything. She loved unconditionally and let her family know every day how treasured they were.
We will always cherish the joy, the light, the witty intelligence, and the spirituality that Lolo brought to every moment she shared with her family and friends. How blessed we were to call her ours. Until we meet again Lolo, we are so very grateful for your never- ending love and will carry your bright light with us always. xo
