Loretta Rose (Roberts) Moore passed away on January 30, 2016, just 2 months shy of her 100th birthday. As she loved to tell people, she was older than dirt. We are so thankful she could be with us for those 100 years, bringing joy and laughter to everyone around her.
Born in Ballard on April 3, 1916 to Thomas Roberts and Rose Beattiger Roberts, Loretta spent most of her life in Seattle, WA. She attended St. John School, Holy Angels High School, and graduated from Broadway High School in 1934.
In August 1943 Loretta married Donald Moore at Fort Dix, New Jersey. She remembered having a soldier as a bridesmaid. After the war, they both made their way back to Seattle where they had one daughter, JoAnn.
Loretta worked all of her adult life, and loved it. Through the years she had jobs at Buddy Squirrel's Nut Shop, the British Air Commission, and Frederick & Nelson. In 1956 she started working at the City of Seattle and enjoyed it so much she stayed on for 34 years, finally retiring from the Water Department at age 77.
When she wasn't working Loretta loved a good conversation, traveling, gardening, spending time at her cabin on Whidbey Island, and of course, her nightly martini.
Loretta was a loving mother and grandmother; a great friend; and was adored by her many nieces, nephews, friends and godchildren.
Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Amelia, Ellen and Roy and her husband Don. She is survived by her sister Vivian Strausbaugh, her daughter JoAnn (Alan) Oiye, her granddaughter Caitlin Oiye (Ryan) Coon, grandson Patrick Oiye and her dear friend Barbara Graham.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Columbia Lutheran Home, who lovingly cared for Loretta the past two years.
Visitation will be held February 10th from 9am to 5pm at Evergreen Washelli Funeral Home, 11111 Aurora Ave North, followed by a Rosary Service at 6:00pm at Evergreen Washelli Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 11th at 11am at St. Benedict Church, 1805 N 49th St to be immediately followed by the committal at Holyrood Cemetery, 205 NE 205th St, Shoreline.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donating to Columbia Lutheran Home, Catholic Community Services or a charity of their choice.
