It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Loy Weathers, of Seattle. Mom passed quickly following a cancer diagnosis at the age of 86.
Born in Winnebago, MN, Mom moved to Washington State with her family as a young girl. They settled on Vashon Island where she grew up. She later moved to Seattle for work and met the love of her life, our father, Art Weathers. They resided in Seattle and enjoyed 26 years of marriage before his passing in 1986. She missed him every day since.
Mom worked in the restaurant industry for over 40 years, retiring in 2001. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, reading mystery novels, researching her family history and observing the birds and hummingbirds outside her window. She was pictured with her old cherry tree, ladened with birdhouses, in an article by Paul Dorpat in The Seattle Times titled, "101 and Still Blooming", referring to the tree, not Mom. https://www.seattletimes.com/pacific-nw-magazine/at-101-still-blooming/
Mom had a life full of family and friends. Her greatest joys in life were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a kind and generous person, always putting the needs of others before her own. She was always ready with a kind word, a sympathetic ear and a helping hand for anyone in need. On her Kneeland family crest is the motto, "Non Sibi" (Not for Himself). That motto exemplifies her life. Her passing leaves a profound emptiness in our lives.
Mom is survived by her children, Sandy (Scott) Van Sickel, and Jon Weathers; her Grandsons Cliff (Cayce) Van Sickel and Zane Van Sickel; her 5 great grandchildren; her sister Mary Bomber of Vashon, WA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins across the US and Canada.
At Mom's request there will be no service. She will be laid to rest next to our father at Evergreen Washelli Cemetery in Seattle. In remembrance, we ask that you consider making a donation to the charity of your choice. Mom's charitable interests were vast, like her heart, and included children, animals and veterans.
