Lucille ?Billie? Durnen Mohr of Bothell passed away on Monday, October 2, 2006, and missed her 94th birthday by one day. She was born in 1912 in Kendall, Montana to Thomas and Harriet Durnen. She was raised in Montana with five siblings and moved to Wenatchee at age 18. In September 1936, Billie married Albert ?Al? Mohr of Wenatchee -- they were together 64 years until Al?s death in 2000. Their daughter, Sheila, was born in 1939. Billie spent over 65 years in the Wenatchee/Chelan area, working in retail at MacDougall?s and Sears department stores. She moved to Bothell in 2001 to be near her family.
During WWII, Mr. Mohr worked in the Bremerton Naval Shipyard. Following the war, Al and Billie moved their family back to Wenatchee where they lived until 1960. After living in Chelan for 20 years, Billie and Al moved back to Wenatchee in 1980 and enjoyed spending their retirement years in their hometown with family and friends.
Billie was kind and generous and loved to help others. To her three granddaughters she was ?the greatest Grandma in the whole world,? and to her six great-grandchildren, she was their lovable ?Grandma Billie.? She was a talented watercolorist and was a member of the Chelan County Watercolor Society for over 25 years. Among her favorite things were gardening, working jigsaw puzzles with friends, and her cat, Toby. Her greatest possessions were her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched.
Billie is survived by her loving daughter, Sheila Mohr Mattingly and her husband Jack, of Bothell: granddaughters Karolyn Loncon and her husband, Garry of Mill Creek, Tracey Cooper of Bothell, and Kim Bruce and her husband, Dennis, of Issaquah; great-grandchildren Ashley Carbonatto and Amy Loncon, Blair and Delaney Cooper, and Taylor and Jesse Bruce, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Billie was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers and two sisters. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pasado?s Safe Haven, P.O. Box 171, Sultan, WA 98294, or to the American Heart Association.
