Irick (he never cared to be called by his first name) was born on a farm in Pittsfield, County Pike, Illinois, The son of Harry Daniel Irick and Alice Ella (Phillps) Irick. He was the youngest of 4 children. He also lived to be (almost) 100, something he was very proud of.
On January 13, 1944, at the age of 17, he enlisted in the US Navy. During his time in the Navy, he served on the USS Gambier Bay CVE, which was sunk and he floated 60 miles in the South Pacific before he was rescued. He then served on the RDN Dova CVE and the Antietam CV. He was discharged in 1947.
While living in Kirkland, WA in 1947 he met Mary Frances Woodard, and they married. They had two children, Jennifer and Dennis. Mary and the children passed before him.
Irick was an Aerospace-Carpenter for Boeing for over 30 years. Not only did he make a living working with wood, he enjoyed using a scroll saw to make pieces of art, and practical items like foot stools, too. His favorite sport was bowling. He spent many an evening enjoying the sport at LeLani Lanes, bowling both for fun and competitively. Irick also enjoyed fishing with friends and traveling with Mary in both in the US and abroad.
Irick was loved for his kindness, his smile and his laugh. He was a special gentleman who will be missed.
Irick will be privately interred near his wife and children at Evergreen-Washelli Memorial Park, Seattle.
