Margaret “Marge” Masako Iwasaki was born in Seattle, WA on April 30, 1932, to parents Tomoji and Ayako Tomoguchi. On January 1, 2022, Marge passed away peacefully at the age of 89, leaving behind her beloved family and many grieving friends.
While born in Seattle, Marge spent her early years in Enumclaw, WA, until her family moved back to Seattle when she was eight years of age. Then, due to the evacuation of Japanese Americans during World War II, at the age of 10, she and her family were sent to Camp Harmony at the Puyallup Assembly Center and then relocated to Minidoka Internment Camp until their release in 1945.
Marge attended Garfield High School and the University of Washington. As an adult, she worked in the Seattle School District for many years; most notably she was a Special Education assistant. While working for the school district, Marge also dedicated many years to Hancock Fabrics where she worked until retiring at the age of 82.
In her early years Marge was active in the Seattle Buddhist Church where she played basketball and made some of her favorite memories. She also enjoyed skiing and bowling. Marge continued her love for basketball through watching the Seattle Supersonics on TV. Later on in life her favorite activity was playing slots, whether it be at a casino in Reno, Las Vegas, or at her favorite, Tulalip Resort Casino.
Marge is survived by daughter Wendy Mayeda, granddaughter Kylie and grand-dogs Kuma and Kobi; son Gaylen Iwasaki (Teresa) and grandchildren Johnathan, Joseph, and Maria Rose. She was preceded in death by former husband Gaylord Iwasaki.
Upon her request, no services will be held.
