Marian Christine Cottrell née Hill left us on May 11th, 2020. She was born in Sedro-Woolley, WA to Elvin and Christine Hill on April 11th, 1952 and joined her elder sister Carolyn, making their family complete.
Marian grew up in Sedro-Woolley and graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1970. She went on to attend Skagit Valley College, where she met the love of her life, Paddy Cottrell. They knew from the beginning that they were meant to be and married in 1971. They moved to Ellensburg, WA where they attended Central Washington University. After graduating they started their 48 years of adventures together, and boy did they have a lot.
She held a love for theater and became a costumer at ACT Theater in Seattle in 1977. Marian always spoke fondly of her years spent working at ACT, and of the lifelong friendships she formed. After ACT Theater she went on to work at Mike Dillon Works as a costume and set designer. Another job she loved and was able to showcase her creativeness. She helped create all sorts of costumes, like the Mariner Moose and loved the challenge of making something work even if it was thought to be impossible.
Marian and Paddy’s lives changed in 1984 when their son Jeffrey came. When their second child Annie arrived in 1987, Marian took a break from her career and dedicated herself to raising her two children in Lake Forest Park, WA. Marian loved to travel and made it a priority for the family to take some amazing trips, creating many wonderful memories. They traveled throughout Europe, the Mediterranean, and Italy which was one of her favorite places. Once Jeffrey and Annie graduated high school, she and Paddy continued their adventures and traveled to various places, including multiple trips to Assisi, one of her favorite towns in Italy.
Marian is preceded in death by her loving husband Paddy. She is survived by her children, Jeffrey and Annie, and sister Carolyn Freeman. Along with her children and sister, she leaves behind her nephew Andy Freeman, his wife Mandy Lefebvre Freeman, their children Jack, Kana and Liv, her niece Julie Freeman, brother-in-law Kerry Cottrell, his wife Julie Cottrell and sisters-in-law Lorraine Eliason and Ellie Dale. She loved them all dearly.
